ABOUT ROBIN

Robin Dainty holding a red rose

A lifetime of nursing, teaching,
and stories worth sharing.

Robin Dainty’s nursing journey began in South Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1982. After several years working in hospitals in and around Miami, she traded familiar surroundings for life on the road, accepting traveling-nurse assignments throughout the Western United States.

Her path eventually brought her to Northern California. In 1991, Robin became a charge nurse on a step-down unit, and four years later, she transferred to the emergency room and earned her certification in Emergency Nursing—a move that would shape much of the rest of her career.

Teaching the Next Generation

As a lead preceptor, Robin helped prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals, mentoring registered nurses, paramedics, EMTs, and high school students exploring careers in medicine. She passed along more than clinical knowledge, including judgment, adaptability, compassion, and sense of humor she had developed through years of caring for patients.

From Scraps of Paper to a Book

Throughout her career, Robin developed a habit of jotting down memorable incidents and saving those scraps of paper in a file at home. Some captured moments of humor. Others preserved difficult lessons, unexpected encounters, and experiences she never wanted to forget.

After retiring on October 1, 2021, she returned to those notes and discovered that together they told a much larger story.
Those memories became the foundation for Laughter and Lessons: Healthcare Stories from a Nurse—a collection of events that looks behind the curtain of healthcare with both honesty and humor.

Why She Wrote It

Robin hopes her stories will give readers a greater appreciation for what nurses and the medical community encounter every day: the pressure, humanity, heartbreak, absurdity, and moments of connection that rarely make it beyond hospital walls.

A Creative Life Beyond the ER

Robin has been playing with clay since she was nine. Alongside her years in nursing, pottery has remained a source of comfort and creative expression—a part of her life built around her artistic side.

Pottery becomes, in Robin’s words, “my own personal way to meditate.” She puts on classical music, places a ball of clay on the wheel, closes her eyes, and begins to create. Working with clay gives her a slower rhythm and a sense of calm, offering a different kind of therapy through the simple act of making something by hand.

Robin’s pottery is primarily functional, with bowls and platters among her favorite pieces to create. Each vessel is hand-thrown and one of a kind, reflecting the individuality she appreciates in both her art and the people she has cared for.

Made from durable stoneware, her pieces bring that creative spirit into everyday life—made to be enjoyed, shared, and used.
